چکیده
Phragmites australis (ssp australis) is an aggressive colony-forming species that displaces emergent vegetation in North America, including native bulrushes (Schoenoplectus sp.) and both invasive cattails (Typha sp.). expansion can alter habitat negatively affect reptiles, amphibians, birds; less known about Phragmites’ utility as fish its impact on communities freshwater coastal wetlands. To assess use of summer, we compared characteristics, water quality, community composition, diversity, abundance among stands flooded Phragmites, Typha, Schoenoplectus at 16 sites across four regions the Laurentian Great Lakes. Despite marked differences quality (higher pH morning dissolved oxygen Schoenoplectus) characteristics stem density Phragmites), there were no significant richness or catch per unit effort types; was a distinct assemblage (more Cyprinids) to Typha Centrarchids). This suggests expense may wetland assemblages; however, with clear other metrics, provide for some fishes during study

متن کاملAre parasite richness and abundance linked to prey species richness and individual feeding preferences in fish hosts?
Variations in levels of parasitism among individuals in a population of hosts underpin the importance of parasites as an evolutionary or ecological force. Factors influencing parasite richness (number of parasite species) and load (abundance and biomass) at the individual host level ultimately form the basis of parasite infection patterns. In fish, diet range (number of prey taxa consumed) and ...
متن کاملTree seedling richness, but not neighborhood composition, influences insect herbivory in a temperate deciduous forest community
Insect herbivores can serve as important regulators of plant dynamics, but their impacts in temperate forest understories have received minimal attention at local scales. Here, we test several related hypotheses about the influence of plant neighborhood composition on insect leaf damage in southwestern Pennsylvania, USA. Using data on seedlings and adult trees sampled at 36 sites over an approx...
متن کاملWater, water everywhere but not a drop to drink?
Biofilms are emerging as an increasing problem as medical technology advances. Dental practice is no exception and interest in the role of biofilms within dental units as a possible source of cross-infection is intensifying. It is difficult to quantitate the risks associated with aerosolised bacteria for the majority of patients seen in general practice. However, it seems prudent to eliminate t...
